Service is hit and miss here but the food is consistent. It's nothing special but decent mexican food. The best aspects of this restaurant are sitting outside on a warm summer night enjoying the river view and rafters passing by and of course the delicious margaritas in a multitude of flavors.

Huge menu. Great view from seats on the covered patio overlooking the river. Food is a mixed bag; some items tasty, others just "meh". Service very slow.

After enjoying so many good meals here, it was very disappointing tonight. The chunky salsa was watery, the regular salsa was not very good. They have changed the recipe and now it tastes like the old restaurant Chevy's that went out of business. Chips weren't warm, or fresh. Enchilada was very small. I believe it was about 1/3 smaller than it used to be. Service was very slow, and we were almost the only people in the place. Other than attending an event like tonight we probably won't be back.

Good basic Mexican food, but the best part is the view of the river.. Sit outside, don't even consider otherwise. Restaurant is dark inside and the noise level is absolutely unbearable, but the patio is heaven.

Location, location, location. Miguel's has it. I got a table right on the deck railing on an 85 degree afternoon. It's a fun scene as the breeze comes through to combine with the ice cold beer to help cool you off. As you relax and watch the river flow lazily by, you'll see fishermen and rowdy kids in pirate rafts float by. It makes you envious that you aren't the guy with the Jolly Roger, a cooler full of beer, and bikini clad women, but alas, it's time to order up on the deck at Miguel's..... The chips had 2 kinds of salsa, both quite good. The pico was very fresh, but the other hot sauce was good, but not great - seemed to be missing.... something. I ordered the Asada Burrito and when it came it was, again, good, but not great. The meat was tasty and the rice and beans are hard to screw up. But the tortilla wasn't as fresh as I hoped. Overall, the burrito was average at best (2.5/5 stars). They also offer a free dessert as part of the meal, but I declined mine. The food is 3 stars at best, but the top notch view easily pushes them to 4. *NOTE: The map on Yelp is way off for Miguel's location. They are on the West side of Highway 62, just South of the bridge that crosses the Rogue River in Shady Cove.

OK decided to give Miguel's another chance after my horrible experience at the Eagle Point location. I give it 2 stars for the river front dining and the small desert they served after the meal. Other then that there is nothing good to say about the food at Miguel's. I so wanted to go to the kitchen and ask if they don't believe in seasoning! Beans no taste whatsoever! Rice might as well been cardboard, and my steak fajita's I think were made with steak'ems. The onions and green peppers didn't even have a taste to them so pretty sure they were frozen then removed for cooking with the processed steak meat. Seriously with the location's they have they could be raking in the money if they just hired some cooks that know how to use fresh ingredients and seasoning.

Delicious food with a good view of the Rogue.

Fajitas were good. Service was attentive. Many good flavors of margaritas available.

Arriving at a 3 star rating for this restaurant is a weighted mix of several things. This restaurant has a beautiful deck directly overlooking the Rogue River, and one has a feast of kayakers, boating enthusiasts, and the occasional hearty swimmer to gaze at while dining. For this, they get 5 stars. Food is about average for a mexican restaurant. Our fajitas were excellent, but other dishes we saw being delivered around us looked quite ordinary. Food is very plentiful. Not inexpensive. $35 for lunch for two without liquor is a bit pricey for mexican, but again, the view made it worth the cost. Cleanliness of Miguel's is most suspect. Floors were dirty, bathroom was completely unacceptable. Doesn't anyone inspect these things any more? Overall, I was going to give it a 2 star, but my other half spoke up and said, oh no, 3 star because of the view and the fajitas were good. If you're looking for a nice outdoor luncheon, and don't mind paying for it, this place is ok.

Food wasn't great, service was bordering on terrible, but the view from the deck is quite nice right there along the river. The server wasn't friendly, they never refilled our water, and they brought chips with no salsa. Maybe it was a really off day, but I doubt it. My husband got the tres amigos or something, and the beef and pork that I tried was pretty bad. Dry and bland. I had a burrito of some sort and it was just ok. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but the deck is cool.

Service is good. But the food is just ok. The reviews are correct when they talk about the bland food. We sat out on the deck and we were assaulted by flies and wasps. I doubt we'll ever eat here again. I'm assuming their business all comes from rafters and tourists. Poor souls don't know what they're in for.

Great view and location. Food was rather unforgettable. I asked our server what his favorite was...a seafood burrito that sounded wonderful...but it wasn't. Should have gone back to Mac's for dinner!

The food was well portioned an it was good..just needs a Lil more seasoning..the margaritas are very good mostly the watermelon yum...there's so much on the menu next time we go back to oregon we will eat here again..

Don't waste your time. We stood at the front desk waiting to be seated. One waitress was busy typing on the computer. Another staff member saw us, but blew us off. We didn't expect much, given the poor reviews. We were never seated so we left. What a waste of a good location. Shame.

Let me say first and foremost, if I could give this "restaurant" zero stars, I would. The wait staff was rude, inconsiderate and absent most of the meal. It took us 20min to get our menus and within 2 min of getting our menus we were asked if we were ready to order...the food was bland and sub par. Our chicken burrito consisted of a tortilla wrapped chicken...that's it. No filler of cheese, rice & or beans...just chicken and tortilla. Rice and beans were served as a side. Avoid this place and if you need to eat while in Shady Cove, go to Chevron and buy a Powerbar, least then the attendant will be polite and attentive to your needs.

Not a whole lot of dining options in Shady Cove, so I gave Miguel 's a try. It seemed better than the local greasy spoon option. The lunch special price seemed pretty reasonable, and the portion of rice and beans that accompanied it were pretty generous. To echo previous reviewers, it was pretty bland. The only thing that really had any zip was the salsa that came with the also bland tortilla chips. The Chile relleno had an egg coating that was very thick, with a cheddar cheese -ish filling. Even the pepper tasted flavorless. The enchilada with Verde sauce was pretty meager too.

Food was ok. My wife found a large chicken bone in her food. They took her plate off the bill.

It's an OK mexican restaurant the view on the water is great the food is very bland and the service is not that great..its really never that busy and when I got a to go order they didn't keep it under warmer so it was cold by the time I arrived and my fried ice cream was soup...was very disappointed l...was made 10 minutes at door before I had to go off and look for somebody who worked there l..Hope they pull it together

I am from Napa, CA. but visit here often as I have family that lived in Shady Cove since I was little. This is a place I will always visit and give my service with a nice margarita, chips & salsa, and mix of food. You can't go wrong with a understanding we are in a town of 1600. Long live the local restaurants!

The setting on the deck cannot be beat. Itwas very clean, the staff were attentive refilling chips and drinks. At our table we tried fish tacos, taco salad, fajitas and watermelon margarita. All were fresh and filling. Its not gourmet, its typical chain food. But it hit the spot and was a nice walk from our hotel.

This is a detailed review of my experiences at Miguel's. I have been coming here for years with my family. We enjoy the view of the river. It was peaceful and enjoyable. I've never had major complaints with the service or food until recently. I would have given this place a higher rating, but it has gone too far my last couple times visiting here. Service (0/5): recently, a couple waiters have redefined what terrible service means. They are rude, sluggish, and sloppy. A couple are so tatted up and scruffy, they look like convicts. The basics like refilling water, chips, and salsa are nearly ignored. They usually offer a complimentary dessert after the meal. We had to remind them the past two times eating here. Honestly, the staff bussing the tables and cleaning (and one of the waitresses) are nicer than the waiters. Food (2/5): I can't say too much because I usually get one of the big burritos like the Miguel's burrito. Margaritas are okay; smaller than other drinks I've had at other Mexican restaurants. When I ate here in July though, I found a long black curly hair in my burrito. They did not comp our burrito and said they would give us a new margarita instead. Instead, they poured us a small glass of a leftover margarita and thought that was good enough. Atmosphere (3/5): this is Miguel's saving factor. People come here for the river views from the deck. It's honestly very beautiful and serene. You can watch rafters paddle down to the dock in the summer months. They have a lot to work with here. So much potential. The restaurant itself is not up to par in cleanliness. I judge the cleanliness of a restaurant heavily by the tables and the bathrooms. The bathrooms here have always been trashy and disgusting. The tables are sometimes sticky and have bits of food from previous guests stuck in various places. You'd think a restaurant's cleanliness is a reflection of the cleanliness of the kitchen. At least I do. In this case, it has been poor lately. Conclusion: I would not currently waste your time visiting this establishment. They need to earn your patronage and support through excellent service and respect of their customers. They currently have a 1 star from me. Maybe I will go back someday, but not until something changes. As of now I am choosing not to give this place any more of my time or money. I am from the rogue valley and love supporting local businesses, especially restaurants. I believe that everyone should support the hard work of local establishments if they deserve to stay in business and flourish. In the case of Miguel's, they simply do not deserve your business at the time of this review. Thanks for reading my review. I hope it helps to save your time and money as well!

The food was the most BLAND, flavorless excuse for Mexican food I've ever encountered. Mexican food in your mouth should be a Fiesta! Not a siesta. The burrito was nothing more than a flour tortilla with ONLY plain chunks of beef tossed in. Then the cook opened up a can of red sauce and spread a couple tablespoons of it on top. Somebody should introduce the cook to cilantro and cumin and while you are at it, hand him a jalapeno or two. Other than the food being over priced and tasteless, the place was nice and the staff was very friendly.

This is a nice Mexican restaurant with outdoor river view seating. The menu is large and they have a full bar. The food was good, however it was fairly bland, unlike most Mexican restaurants. In other words, if you're used to spicy Mexican food, you need to ask them to spice it up for you.

Right on the Rogue River. We sat on the deck and enjoyed the rafters and the river while we ate our lunch on Saturday. Food was good but a little bland. We got some habinero salsa from the kitchen which helped. Overall the experience was good. I would try more traditional entrees next time. The fish chicken shrimp combo isn't that great.

Pretty disappointed here. 3 times during fire and three different tacos. Not good as any taco cart. Chile rellenos was an omlette..... would recommend this unless stick in shady cove.....

Decided to go back here for lunch and boy were we disappointed. It's really only good for the view in my opinion. The food is way too bland and just doesn't taste all that great. The service was pretty bad too. My husband's meal came with tortillas and the server brought mine out a couple of minutes after the food came out. He told my husband that his will be out in a little bit. Well, about 10 minutes later he brought them out and by that time my husband had already eaten most of the meat. The server said something like "Wow, you already ate your meat. That was fast!" Um, do you really need to be judgmental about that for one and how about apologizing for taking so long to bring out the rest of his meal?? There were other awkward moments like that and I probably won't be visiting this place again.

Mixed feelings about this place. Wonderful view of the Rogue River from the patio - even in the winter. And the food was pretty good. But that's where the good experience ends. We sat down for lunch on Black Friday (our party of 11) and noticed the huge sign on the window (we were looking in from the outside patio) that said "Express Lunch Specials - Monday to Friday - $5). When we asked about the lunch specials - our server thought for a second and said "Umm... not available today." I get that certain specials aren't available on weekends and holidays. But the day after Thanksgiving isn't a holiday - and if a restaurant has a Monday-Friday special - it shouldn't be off limits. Whatever. We ordered off the dinner menu (Entrees at $15 a pop). As we were waiting for our food - we started to notice that it was pretty cold on their "heated outside patio." We noticed that we were right next to a wall heater - but that it wasn't on. I looked across the patio and saw another wall heater (on the far side about 30 yards from where we were). That one was on - and looked nice and toasty. We asked the busboy who was refilling our drinks if he could turn on our heater - and he told us it didn't work. When your restaurant is absolutely empty - and it's 55 degrees out - why would you sit a party of 11 on the side of your patio where the heater doesn't work? Finally - and I know this is small - my daughter noticed some vending machines on the way in that sell little toys for 75 cents for charity. You know - the kind that come in the plastic bubbles that are impossible to open. After hitting all of us up for quarters - and coming up short - we tried to break a dollar with the bartender. (Again - empty restaurant). He told us that he didn't have any. Come on!!! Of course he had quarters. And if they weren't handy - he would have known where to get some. In fact, on our way out - we asked the hostess - and she said "He didn't have quarters - but I can get some." From what I could tell - it's the only restaurant open in Shady Cove for lunch (that's on the river). Were it not for that - we would never be back.

I have eaten at many authentic and Americanized Mexican restaurants and the food I had at the Shady Cove Miguel's was by far the worst food I have ever had. My family of 4 got 4 different entrees that we intended to share and every dish was bland. The sauce on the Arroz con Pollo (a dish the waiter said was their specialty) was starchy, bland, and tasted like rancid oil was used in the preparation. The albondigas soup was even worse -- I could not tell what type of meat was used and the oil floating in the soup tasted rancid. My wife's and kid's experiences were similar. Avoid this restaurant even if you are starving.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
